Soft Skull Shortwave to Host the Book Mobile Project
The Projet MOBILVRE-BOOKMOBILE project, a touring collection of zines
and independent publications housed in a vintage Airstream trailer, will be
parked outside of Soft Skull Shortwave all day on Wednesday April 2nd.
The creators of the project will be available to talk about the BOOKMOBILE,
independent media and do-it-yourself publishing.
The BOOKMOBILE?S debut tour in 2001 enjoyed great success.
The project travels across the United States and Canada drawing
audiences in public spaces in various urban and rural communities. In
April 2003, a new collection of 300 book works will hit the road in a
converted vintage Airstream trailer and visit community centers, schools,
festivals, artist-run centers, libraries, and book stores all over North America.
Visitors to the BOOKMOBILE will witness an outstanding collection of
book works by a diverse range of artists and writers, in all stages of
their careers. The BOOKMOBILE creates an exhibitionary site, experience
of space, and intimate physical interaction with art objects that is rarely part
of conventional art viewing. The BOOKMOBILE project explores the possibility
of crossing boundaries between art, literature, academics and activism
within the context of community building.
